An Accomplishment Today
When I purchased my house 3 years ago, not a door was keyed the same and I only had the key to the front door. I mainly go out through the garage and never had an issue. Then one day I came home and the garage door wouldn’t open. The power was out. I couldn’t get in through the front because I rarely use it and the chain was in place. So I had to wait out the power outage in my backyard. It was a hot day and luckily I only had to wait about an hour. That was enough. It could have been worse and the power out in the winter on one of our really cold days.
The first thing I did was to replace the knob from the garage to the house. I bought a new knob and had that rekeyed. That went fine. Today I’m replacing the backdoor knob. I had purchased the knob and also had it rekeyed. This shouldn’t be a problem but I didn’t anticipate the fact that the door didn’t have a faceplate. That meant I needed to buy a chisel. Check.
That’s done and everything fits. Now to make sure everything lines up. After a little tweaking, it does.
The part that always takes time for me is getting the screws in place when you can’t see where they are going. Finally, I got them in and the faceplate secured.
Glad that’s done. It was getting hot outside and the glare was intense. Now I don’t have to worry about being locked out of my own home.
